Terms and Conditions
These terms govern your use of Compass Intel. They are written to be read, not skimmed past. Please take a minute with sections 6 and 7 in particular, which cover how the technical material here may and may not be used.
1. Agreement to these terms
By accessing or using this site you agree to these terms and conditions. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. These terms form the entire agreement between you and the publisher in relation to your use of Compass Intel.
There are no accounts, subscriptions, purchases or paid services on this site, so nothing here deals with payment, delivery, refunds or cancellation.
2. Who runs this site
Compass Intel is an independent, non-commercial publication written from the United Kingdom. It carries no advertising, no sponsorship and no affiliate links, and it is published under a pseudonym.
Email is the contact channel for everything – corrections, complaints, takedown
requests, permission to republish or anything else:
compass.cyber.intel@protonmail.com
Messages are read and answered. If something published here is wrong or unfair to you, that address is the fastest way to have it looked at.
3. What this site is for
Compass Intel publishes news, commentary and technical analysis about information security. It is written for general interest and education. It is not professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified security assessment of your own systems or for legal advice about your obligations.
Do not act on anything here as though it were tailored to your situation. If a decision matters – patching a production system, responding to an incident, reporting a breach – get advice from someone who knows your environment.
4. Accuracy of content
Security reporting moves quickly. Articles reflect what was known at the time of writing and may be superseded within hours by a vendor correction, a revised severity score or a better attribution. Nothing here is warranted to be accurate, complete or current, and it may not be corrected retrospectively.
If you spot an error, please report it to the address in section 2. Corrections are welcome and will be noted on the article.
5. Permitted use
You may read, browse, print and download extracts from this site for your own personal use or for internal use within your organisation, provided you do not alter the content and you keep any copyright notice intact.
Sharing a link to an article is always welcome and needs no permission.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use this site or its content for any unlawful purpose
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to this site, its server or any connected system, or probe, scan or test its security without written permission
- interfere with the site's availability, including by denial-of-service traffic or excessive automated requests
- introduce malicious code of any kind
- republish, redistribute or sell whole articles, or systematically harvest content in bulk, without permission
- reproduce content in a way that misrepresents its meaning, its author or the date it was written
Reasonable, well-behaved crawling for search indexing is permitted. Beyond that, all rights are expressly reserved in relation to text and data mining, and no licence is granted to use any content on this site for the training or fine-tuning of machine learning or generative AI systems. Requests for such use are considered on their merits – please ask.
Access may be blocked at any time where use of the site breaches this section.
7. Technical content and lawful use
Articles describe vulnerabilities, attack techniques, malware behaviour, and defensive tooling. This material is published so that defenders, students and researchers can understand and mitigate real threats. It is not published to help anyone attack a system.
You are responsible for what you do with it. In the United Kingdom, accessing a computer without authorisation, impairing its operation or making or supplying tools intended for those purposes are criminal offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. Equivalent laws apply in most other jurisdictions. Only test against systems you own or have explicit, written permission to test.
No liability is accepted for any loss, damage, prosecution or other consequence arising from anyone's use or misuse of the technical information on this site.
8. External links
Links to advisories, research, proof-of-concept repositories, news reports and vendor documentation are provided for reference. Linking to a resource is not an endorsement of it, its author or its contents, and there is no control over what those sites publish or how they change after a link is made.
9. Intellectual property
All original writing, layout and graphics on this site are © Compass Intel 2026, all rights reserved. Publishing under a pseudonym does not affect ownership of that copyright.
You may quote short extracts for the purposes of criticism, review or news reporting, provided the quotation is fair, attributed to Compass Intel, and accompanied by a link to the original article. Republishing whole articles, translating them or feeding them into a commercial content service requires permission – just ask.
Product names, logos and trademarks belonging to other organisations remain the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and commentary only. Where third-party material appears – screenshots, code excerpts, advisory text – it is used under fair dealing for the purpose of news reporting or criticism. If you own material used here and object to its use, contact the address in section 2 and it will be reviewed promptly.
10. Liability
This site is provided as it is, with no warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any direct, indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site or anything you find on it.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
11. Availability
There is no guarantee that this site will be available, uninterrupted or free of error. It may be changed, suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice, and articles may be amended, unpublished or archived.
12. Privacy
How visitor data is handled is set out separately in the Privacy Notice, which forms part of these terms.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may be revised at any time. The version published here is the one that applies to your use of the site, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
14. General
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in force. A delay in enforcing any part of these terms is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later. A person who is not a party to these terms has no right to enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
